Hi all,

Right a few mths ago i lost my HD in a crash ie the HD died on me so lost all my mp3s and other stuff. At the moment its all on my iphone4 and i havent got a backup on my new HD.

Now ive used sharepod and got all my music back onto my hd. When opening itunes i get the message that theres a new update available 5.0.1 i think.

Anyhow im downloading the update as it is but was wondering if itunes will automatically back up my iphone4 before installing the update?? or does it wipe the iphone??.

Im a bit confused as i havent synched my iphone since installing my new hd, just havent got round to doing it.

So any ideas??. im just worried that my apps will be lost and ill have to re-download them.

Any help would be appreciated.

TIA

If you do it via iTunes then it will backup your phone and restore it after the update.

If you're already on iOS5 and it's prompting you about the 5.0.1 update then just do it OTA on the phone itself - much faster and no backup/restore shenanigans :)

Sadly lost all my apps and music that was on the iphone4...looks like im gonna have to re-download all my apps and synch my music over again.

****ing pain in the arse lol

Apps won't take long, music will depending on how much you have. Or just sign up for iTunes Match and have it all available on demand rather than syncing :)

You can do that in iTunes, it'll know what you've bought and allow you to download it all in one go, apps/music etc.
