Hi all, i've had my ps4 since launch but I have to say Battlefield 1 is the first game that i've really got into online wise. So much so that it's had me hankering after the experience i got years ago with COD 1 and 2 on PC using teamspeak. Man that was fun, when people were actually using tactics and planning etc.

So...for the first time since owning a console, i'm considering getting a decent surroundsound headset with a mic.

So, am i right in thinking that when i plug this in, only then will i be able to see which other players are using voice comms and then communicate with them? Do they have to be 'friends' on the psn network (i don't have any as i've never bothered with that sort of thing) or can i do voice comms with anyone else in my squad who has a mic. Only my squad or the whole team?

Some input from people using voice comms and playing BF1 would be much appreciated.

I'm considering the corsair headset which is about 50 quid on ocuk this week i believe.... :)

Good question, I haven't heard a single random person speak in game yet.

I think it could be squad based, hence why squads are locked all the time?

You do occasionally get random people using a mic, but its very rare to find and 9 times out of 10 they're spouting useless inane rubbish. Much better if you play with a group of friends.

A decent headset is a great investment though. I run a pair of Samson 850 headphones with a modmic through an Astro Mixamp. Sound quality is amazingly good.

for the #50 budget - the official sony headset 2.0 is great as it is completely wireless and has pretty decent surround capabilities considering its price.

Regarding talking in game, you can communicate with your squad, but not outisde of that
