Hi all
need some advice on a problem that's recently started happening.
I have a custom built system (from 2012), the relevant specs are:
Coolermaster Silencio 352 case
Motherboard ASUS P8Z68 VLX
Intel i5 2500k with a Corsair H60 Hydro CPU cooler.
The cooler has two "pipes" coming out of it and they go into this little box/grid where I have a Coolermaster 120mm XtraFlo fan (3-pin).
(My system has lot of other components but I don't believe they are relevant)
It was built to be silent and it was, until late last year when XtraFlo fan started going crazy and making loud noises.
This happens whenever I am doing some intensive CPU tasks (eg raytracing in PS CC, using desktop capture software such as BSR Video). When I have the house heating on, even watching a Youtube video is enough to make it kick in.
I have removed and cleaned the fan (it was quite dirty) but when it kicks in, it's just so loud that is incredibly annoying.
I was wondering which needs replacing, the fan itself or the Corsair cooler? If the cooler had a problem wouldn't the system be quite unstable (it's not).
Happy to replace both if necessary (instead of having to buy a new system) but I cannot use PWM fans as my motherboard uses 3-pin connections only.
Any advice would be appreciated
Many thanks
David
