Question about where programming started

Just been thinking about different programming languages, and was wondering how people invented the languages and how they came across them.

Any info would be great

Take a look at C as a language as that seems to be where a lot of the well used languages stem from.

The Cotton industry. Millers developed the punch card machines for the repeated weaving patterns on cotton fabric; this then inspired Binary (on/off - a hole/no hole) and the rest is just 1's and 0's.
