I recently bought a 360 from a well know electronics store who are also a competitor. What I'm wondering is if it dies on me within the 12 month period would they offer me an exchange or repair?

well, technically they are only oblige to offer repair, but then you might as well deal directly with MS and cut out the middle man. They only need to offer exchange when they can't repair it. If they offer exchange then take advantage of it obviously.

Thanks, just wondered becuase if it broke in like 9 months time I was hoping for an exchange for a 65nm console.

Cross that bridge when you come to it, if it doesn't break then it makes absolutely no difference to your gaming experience.

They are only obliged to take it back for a replacement within the first 6 months, between 6 months and 12 months you have to prove that the damage wasn't done through misuse.

Not really, they can freely offer a replacement instead, which a lot of shops will do.

The term is "what is more convenient to the retailer", not the customer. So can do both, but not unnecessarily a replacement straight off, but it depends on the product.

Small electrical items a replacement would be easiest, but when you are buying car the same laws apply and in which case the dealer will go for repair.

Rather than make a new thread with a similar title, i'll ask in here instead.

My 360 failed on me a few days ago (RRoD) and i've packed it up ready for UPS to ship it to the repair centre. But when i tried arranging a collection online, they were asking for payment details without even saying how much it would cost.

So this is a question to others who've sent their 360's to Microsoft. Did you have to pay UPS, and if so, how much did you have to pay them?

No you do not have to pay ups.
The collection and delivery is paid by microsoft.
When you get the return labels from ms they have the phone no for ups on them and all you do is ring them to arrange the collection.

You will not have to wait to long for your 360 to be repaired.
A friend of mine sent his back last monday and he got it back today at 3pm.
Thats pretty quick service.

You've gotta be joking!!! They've had mine nearly 4 week!!

Well listen out tomorrow 'cos they are gonna get one hell of a phonecall!! :p

When I bought mine from a highstreet store in the summer, I checked with them that if anything did in fact go wrong, I could just bring it back within 12months with a receipt and they would do a straight swap.

you know what, i reckon all the 360 owners on the forum should put themselves on a machine death list and we can all place bets on which of their 360s will die first :)

it'll be fun :)
