question - can you put music and video on ipod without using itunes?

thinking of buying an ipod for going on holiday, all other devices i have had have been drag and drop ,
just don't like itunes but like the hardware

Though for video you do need to convert it to a certain format manually last time I tried. The software was free, and it still transferred fine through Winamp after.
