So long as you make a note of where everything was plugged into port wise etc...

how is windows 7 when swapping the boards out for the new fixed sandybridge?

does it just pick up and go, or does it spit its dummy out of the pram?

cheers

It would work, but i'd do a fresh install anyways, to ensure none of your motherboard drivers conflict and cause errors.

Always do a fresh install after a major hardware change...

As do i, i was just wondering if this would count as a major hardware change.

if everything is the same, all bar the fix, then surely all the drivers etc should function as normal?

(I know i am being a little lazy, but my pc is running well with everything installed, updated and running properly)

When i switched from S775 to my I7 setup in sig, i just installed the new, booted up let win7 do its thing and all was fine, sometimes it will activate fine, other times u have to call the automated number, but that sorts it.

I did it that way to test what would happen, as i knew shortly after id be getting a new ssd and would be re-installing at that point anyways, had no issues what so ever.

But as Emphacy said, it is always best to do a clean install though, just makes things a lot smoother.

With Win7 and the same chipset there is very little to worry about. I swap out motherboards on the same OS/Hard drive all the time.

But it is totally correct to say it is best to do a new full install of OS.

I had problems with win 7 retail 64 bit swapping from p45 775 to x58 1366. I ended up doing a reinstall including microsoft reactivation over the phone. No go with safe mode or recovery.

comletely different motherboard\socket.

The OP defo doesn't need to swap anything though it's exactly the same components and drivers that are used.
