Ok so i have a DS4 that'll be getting fitted soon, just wondering about how much airflow is needed around the heatpipe coolers to keep the chipset temps reasonable, as that'll also help me decide wether to use say Big Typhoon or a Ninja or maybe even an AC7 Pro?

It'll be oc'd and be living in a TJ06 with a 120 coming in at the front and a 120 out at the back, get good temps with the current [email protected] 100% load 48'c and thats with an old Coolermaster Hyper6 and a 80mm quiet ystech so i reckon the case cooling may be ok for an AC7 Pro.

So what are you guys using?
any suggestions welcome.

Cheers.
:)

I've got an AC7Pro on the E6400 in my DS4 and I don't think it provides enough airflow over the mobo heatsinks. The Big Typhoon is the style that's needed as it blows the air down onto the board but I don't know how well it cools the CPU compared with the AC7Pro.

Kinda what i was thinking, i know theres a few on here (Vent?) has a ds4 with a Ninja but he's not stopped off here yet.

What makes you say they're not getting enough? Are they running hot, or is it just a guess as the AC7 doesn't blow on them itself?

Running at 36C according to ET5 and feel quite hot.

Mine are too hot to touch but I have no stability issues at all. I'm not running any extra voltage through the 'bridges though and I think that must help.

Running with arctic cooler here and no problems at all been running sp orthos for 10 hours and all temps are fine much much better than with reference cooler! :)

ive got a zalman 9700, in minimum speed
in quite a cold room, e6600 clocked to 3150, stock volts.
it idles all day around 30c, couple of torrents running

yup, DS4/Ninja setup here, the chipset coolers do get hot (very) but I've good airflow around the case anyway
if you're worried about it then maybe put the rear case fan to blow into the case.

Thanks for the input all :) muchas gracias :D

Still not 100% on which cooler to go for  im hoping chipset coolers will be getting plenty of air anyway as the board will be upside down so cpu at the bottom of the case where the 120 blows in and another at the back going out, might even end up using the wind tunnel bit that the case came with.

Its between the Ninja & the Typhoon, maybe i should get both then i'll know for sure which is best suited.

aparently you shouldn't mount heatpipe coolers upside down, somthing to do with not having a wick?

OK - I'll clarify myself. The heatsink that looks like a heatpipe on the DS4 is a fake. It isn't a real heatpipe. It's a big heatsink. The tube is empty.

If you think about how a heatpipe works it couldn't work horizontally anyway - would it?

but its not horisontal. there is a tip at the top and an end at the bottom! as the overall tube is vertical it should work!

A properly designed wicking one will even work upside down :D
