Dont know if many scottish power customers will be on here but just got an energy monitor in the post from them never requested on so not sure if im gonna be charged for this but wondering if any of you have been given one and if so did they charge you on next bill?

I'm with scotch power - haven't received an energy monitor as of yesterday. I doubt they can charge you for it without your agreement though. Probably one of those "green" initiatives like giving out free energy saving light bulbs.

This is confusing. Why would energy companies be giving you energy saving bulbs? It means you're using less electricity and thus giving them less money. I can understand it as a freebie for new customers, but why would they give them out to existing customers?

Because they are under an obligation to encourage their customers to use less energy. Of course, there are much more effective ways of doing this than giving out free energy saving lightbulbs but this would cost them more money ;)

What obligation?

I have a S.W.A.L.E.C energy monitor and the usage is an eye opener....toasters, electric kettles and dryers are the devils tools!....wife and kids are probably fed up with me being an energy usage nazi by now but this monitor has shocked me into doing something about our electricity wastage.
