this is for my golf. i put new suspension on lastnight (only had time for the front). the car is about 10mm higher at the front than it was yesterday

this morning i started to hear a grind/gumble

the noise wasnt apparently immediately, it took a couple miles to become audiable and its nasty gridning noise

it is not apparent on throttle (any load, light or heavy) but you hear it as soon as youre off the throttle or coasting

it is the same whether clutch is up or down (so sort of ruling out gear box) but NOT the diff

the sound "feels" like its coming from my feet area.

so place your bets

1) inner CV (would that be noisy off load, silent on?)
2) diff (i have a feeling it could be diff) but its not a whine, its a grind

what do you recon?

thanks. ive got a few suspicions but ive not had a chance to get back under the car again

it was pretty damn low before and the CVs do end up at some un-natural angles

i do need to re-lower it so that may help

the OS outer joint is a brand new GKN item as of last august. the rest are the VW originals from 220k miles ago

ill keep this posted

arb and driveshaft interface only effects mk4s and a3. your arb hoops over the driveshaft. mine is now actually 10mm higher than it was yesterday, so less chance of anything rubbing, but simon has a very good point about the CVs.

sadly the CVs would actually be operating in something closer to their normal range

eitherway ill find out a bit more when i get a chance to get under the car again.

your clutch/flywheel job turn out ok in the end?

*sheepishy*

crisis averted. wheel bolts not done up properly. it was still making the noise on the way home, then i ran through what i did lastnight. i only did them up ratchet tight, didnt get the torque wrench out
