hi guys. my first post for a while as ive not been well. im finely getting round to upgrading my fx8350 and i really cant afford x99. i think ive settled on the z97 s-oc force and 4790k.

my question is the ek south bridge block prevents the use of the 2nd pcie slot, but the inlet/outlet line up with the gap between slots 2 and 3. is it possible to use slot 3 for a 2nd gpu or is the sb to tall? with gtx770 so cheap i want to sli while i still can and get the xspc block for it.

last 2 pictures on the product page show what i mean:

many thanks in advance for any help. cheers, damien.

also is it possible to just sli using slots 1 and 4 and use the long ek bridge?

Hi.

For SLI you have to use 1+2 as these operate at 8X each. Which is the minimum you need to run SLI.

The 3+4th slots run at 4X each.

The 3rd slot also steals bandwidth from the 2nd slot when used, so you get 8X/4X/4X for crossfire or you get 8X/4X/4X/4X for 4 way crossfire if you use all the slots.

The 4th slot is actually run from the chipset and does not steal anything from the first three slots.

Crossfire works at a minimum of 4X.

ok awesome thanks stulid. im going to slightly adjust my hardware choice and go for the maximus 7 ranger instead and it only has the mosfet block. i will save money on the mobo and block then as i wouldnt be able to use the block for the sb.

looks like union jack colour scheme it is then :D.

cheers, damien.

Watercooling the motherboard these days is just a waste of time. My chipset cooler barely gets warm and my vrm's are usually in the mid/high 30's.

its because ive had bad experience with my current pc throttling due to overheating vrms (the one in my sig). i know its an amd etc but i just want to be sure and for £35 plus 2 fittings it isnt breaking the bank.

so would you say s-oc force au naturelle with stock heatsinks and 4790k? ive just picked up a b grade xspc gtx770 block from clearance section for £25. :). rest will be ordered next month.
