Question of curiosity about OC and psu

I just bought a corsair rmx 650 on the Black Friday sale for £50 and so far I recommend it all the way can't even hear it when I'm gaming. I upgraded from a 550w xigmatek psu which I've had for 3+ years!

Anyway my i5 3570k was overclocked at 4.0 but anything over that would cause the OC to crash during gaming!

Now with the new psu in I've tried 4.2 which I could never get and seems to running fine with no crashes! What I'm wondering is can the psu have a positive effect on over clocking because it's always held me back from getting the most out of the chip not being able to go over 4.0.

Yea I educated myself extensively on psu's a few months back and when I bought the older one I had no clue just picked it up from the local pc shop. It was a tauro I believe it did the job other than the over clock but I've heard a lot of good things about my corsair psu so I think I'm going to have better results :)
