Question on a powerline thingy

have to be directly connected to the same power line, take this scenario

you have a house 2 doors away and ur internet is loacted there can you use this thingy to get ur connection from that place to were u currently are ?

It has to be on the same circuit, so it probably wouldn't work for that.
