Question on CPU types and if I can upgrade

Hi folks

I have a DELL Inspiron 5348 All-in-One PC which appears to have a knackered motherboard. It comes with a i5-4460S. My PC has a i5 2500K in a Asus P8Z68-V (rest of system spec in my forum signature).

What I am wondering is, would the CPU in the Dell fit my machine, and if so, would it be a reasonable upgrade, and worth the hassle of removing from the Dell, and putting in my machine?

They use different sockets so it wouldn't even physically fit.

Different CPU series tend to need a different motherboard especially where Intel is concerned.

Your 2500K is likely the better CPU, as it can be easily overclocked, if you don't include energy saving as a metric in your calculations.

Actually just checked, it's an i5 4440S CPU, so it definitely wouldn't be worth the effort (new motherboard).

Even if it was physically possible you wouldn't be able to cool the 2500.
