I am in a predicament as to which GeForce GTX8800 card to use as there are so many different varients. The one which have caught my eye are (Most expensive first): -

768MB BFG Technology 8800GTX Water Cooled PCI-E(x16) Mem 2000MHz GPU 650MHz 128Streams HDTV/2xDVI-I

768Mb XFX 8800GTX XXX, PCI-E (x16), Mem 2000 MHz, GPU 630 MHz, Dual DVI/HDTV

768MB EVGA 8800GTX KO Superclocked PCI-E 2000MHz GPU 626MHz 128Streams Dual DVI-I/HDTV ACS3 Arctic C

768Mb XFX 8800GTX, Extreme, PCI-E (x16), Mem 1900 MHz, GPU 600 MHz, 128 Stream, 2x DVI/HDTV

768Mb EVGA 8800GTX PCI-E (x16), Mem 1800 MHz, GPU 575 MHz, 128 Streams, 2 x Dual Link DVI-I HDTV

768Mb Asus 8800GTX PCI-E (x16), Mem 1800 MHz, GPU 575 MHz, 128 Streams, 2 x Dual Link DVI-I HDTV

It is obvious that the differences between each model is the speed but will there be considerable performance differences between the BFG version (top) & the much lower priced Asus version (Bottom)?

Also, I have read that the watercooled version by BFG replaces the standard double slot 8800 GTX fan allowing room for another card so do the other cards take up 2 slots?

Sorry if it's a dumb question but can someone please explain?

Thanks again.

no idea about slottage, but the BFG comes with the ligfetime warranty which is always a bonus, especialy with an overclocked card. however each card uses the same chip and probably th same memory just possibly from different bins. the low end one can probably clocked to the same speed as the most expensive one, but the most expensive one may well clock even higher.

personaly i went for the BFG 8800 GTS 640mb OC. partly because of peoples good views, partly because of the warranty and partly because the price form OCUK at £265 was £40+ less that my last 2 cards (7800GTX and 9800XT). the performance is dazzling and will serve anyone right until the next cycle come around.

it depends on your resolution really, plus if you have money to burn then the GTX is the obvious chioce. if however you do need to run to a budget then maybe the GTS is a better cheaper option. They will all play DX10 games but with none out at the moment and the next gen cards probably only 8 months away i bought my GTS for the dx9 performance now. the fact that it can play DX10 as well is just a little bonus.

they all come out the same factory. Just rebadged and packaged up by different manufacturers. And some also pre-clock slightly. In general all the 8800s clock the same etc.
The price difference reflects on the package etc with the 8s, I bought the BFG as the lifetime warranty is great, and a lot of people have commented on BFGs tech support and warranty service. I Dont fancying having to stump up the cash to ship a broken card to canada again, and have to wait around, so for me it was worth it.

Personally I'd just go for whatever is cheapest, unless there's a difference of only a few quid in which case I'd look at manufacturer reputation, software bundle and clock speeds.

I would go for the eVGA above the Asus card. Asus haven't got great customer services were their graphics cards are concerned. The Top cards come pre-clocked higher than the stock GTX's - you could just do this yourself and save a bit of money ;)

Ive seen this a lot on the web where the BFG card is concerned.
Warranty: Lifetime (10 years in Europe)
So I guess if you live in say USA it will be lifetime meaning lifetime.

I bought the EVGA 8800GTX Superclocked from an american site for a lot less than UK prices.

Havent recieved it yet but i expect it to be an awesome card :D

You may well end up getting a bill through the post from HM Customs & Excise which could end up wiping off some of the savings. :(

unless the parcel is marked as less than i think £34 then its likly. there will probably be maybe 10% duty 17.5% vat and then £8 handling fee from parcel farce. best place to import stuff from is HongKong, very rarly gets picked up at customs.

depends what its marked as really. Just hope you get someone who doesnt care about there job, its not like they get commision is it?

the first 8800gtx listed is a watercooled one
it means you need your own water cooling to use it
it doesnt have its own watercooler
