Question on OC with this GPU

When they become available I am planning to get one of these cards as the price has gone down enough to justify upgrading from my GTX1080 which has served me well so far but is struggling in one or two games
Looking at the specs it says it has an overclock mode, but doesn't the listing title usually say if this is so and have "OC" as part of ther title to promote that feature.
I have seen discrepancies in listings before so does this card actually have an OC feature
Thanks

All modern AMD cards can be tweaked and over clocked in the driver software. These switches might add a little bit of power or adjust fan curves. To be honest I would not worry about the switches.

As far as I know, OCUK just list however the manufacturer describe the model and OC is not normally an overclocking feature, but a slight factory overclock that pushes the card ahead of other models in benchmarks.

You can easily increase power limits and clockspeed in the Adrenaline software and can also alter memory speeds and undervolt. It is a very user friendly piece of software and you can go massively indepth with tweaking the card.

You may want to watch this video and also follow the channel for all AMD driver news and flaws/fixes.

Do you mean that card in particular?

The Asrock Phantom Gaming is the same price, and for £30 more you can get the Sapphire Pulse.

Both are currently in stock.

I did mean the Red Dragon but I am also looking at the Phantom Gaming as well, is the Pulse any better for the extra £30
I initially chose the Red Dragon because I saw a video where the Powercolor factory actually let someone in to film the manufacturing process without any restrictions

Powercolor are cool, years ago they repaired free of charge an R9 290 I damaged accidentally (mashed a couple of smds). Cost quite a bit to ship back and forth to Taiwan but less than 1/3rd the overall value of the card at the time so well worth it.

In terms of which to buy I'd say just go with whichever has the best warranty at the price point you're aiming for.

In terms of overclocking the listing is just reflecting the fact that the card comes with higher clocks than the reference model from AMD. If you want to tweak further you can get small gains in performance but more importantly lower temps/power draw by undervolting, which can be done via the AMD control panel. There should be plenty of guides out there if you want to play around with that.

Out of curiosity, is there any reason why the 6800 series cards only have a 2 year warranty? Both the 6700 and 6900 cards have three years if not MBA? Does this suggest that the 6800s are less reliable? For the minimal price differential and the extra piece of mind the 6950 seems to make more sense albeit the additional power requirements.

Not at all. The 6800 cards use the same Navi 21 GPU as the 6950 XT, so if anything they should be more reliable in theory since they're not pushing it so hard. Warranty stuff is entirely down to the AIB and whatever deals they've made for that particular product. You might find this thread interesting in that respect:

https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/sapphire-rma-query-no-manufacturers-warranty.18969269/

Incidentally, Gibbo says in that thread that all custom Sapphire cards sold by OcUK come with a three-year warranty, yet the 6800 XT Pulse has two years listed on the product page. I don't know if that's a typo or it hasn't been updated or what. Probably best to ask customer services about it.

Cheers Aretak, it did make me wonder. It also doesn't tie up with the table in the warranties sticky for the 6800 AIBs

@Gibbo are you able to confirm whether the 6800xt pulse is 2 or 3 years on the warranty side? The boy's 580 has died and the Starfield requirements suggest a 6800xt at least. The 2 year difference on warranty is really the only sticking point.

One more question, I see the Asrock Radeon RX 6800 XT Phantom Gaming has 3 power connectors but the others I have been looking at have 2.
Does this mean the Phantom Gaming uses more power or just that it can be overclocked more

Curious on that too, Sapphire recommend a 750w whereas Asrock an 800w. Is this just covering themselves or is there more to it with the phantom. There don't seem to be many reviews for these models unfortunately.

The amount of 8 pin power connectors is not an issue for a 6800xt. Each 8 pin connector can deliver 150w and the pci slot can also deliver 75w. Under normal operation a 6800xt will be using approx 280w so you would have to massively overclock that card to use over 375w and require 3 x 8 pin connectors.

The most likely reason that particular card has 3x8 pin connectors is because it shares a PCB with the 6900xt and 6950xt and it is cheaper and easier to make a single PCB for all models and then to instal the gpu.
