question on powerline adapters

I have always been curious, do they only work as pairs or could I have one connected to my router and buy 3 to connect to that one around the house, would imagine they have to be same model.

Always a good idea to go for the same models to ensure compatibility and best performance.

You only need one to connect to your router and then after that just one for each other device you want to connect.

You could always plug another router or switch at the "far end" to provide wifi of multiple connections?

yeh thats what i do, works great. Got one homeplug>switch and homeplug>switch>wireless access point.
