Question on testing if a motherboard is dead

If i just plug the main power into the motherboard, should a green light turn on? Or do i need to install a cpu?

a board should show signs of life with just the board, but cpu and memory to actually do anything.

Yes if there is a led to indicate power that should light up, not sure what happens if your try to boot i think it would power up but not enough to do anything.

you can always try pluging a fan into it see if it spins up

I would just wait for someone else to confirm it before you do anything else. Its been a long time since i have had to check a motherboard.
Im pretty sure without anything plugged in it should beeb a fair bit to say no cpu and memory installed.

would if youve connected up a speaker, or if it has its own one. not all mobos will light up, could easily be that it doesnt unless its been turned on at least once its in life or something, or maybe the led is broken etc. id at least press the on button on the psu to see if it does anything 9with a speaker plugged in if it needs it.
