Hi all. My girlfriend just recieved her mums old Sony Vaio PCG-SR1K, which while nice and small, is pretty rubbish by todays standards
. Heres the system specs:
Processor: Mobile Intel® Pentium® III processor 500 Mhz
Cache: 256 KB (on die)
Memory: 64 MB Upgradeable to 256 MB
Memory Information: microDIMM 100Mhz (SDR)
Hard Disk Drive: 9 Gb (IDE)
Graphic Card: Neomagic MagicMedia 256AV+
Video Memory: 3 MB
Display: 10.4" TFT XGA 1024x768
Sound Chip: Yamaha YMF754B-R 16-bit CD-quality stereo sound
I'd like to upgrade the memory from the original 64mb and install a basic linux OS as it comes with Windows 2000 which runs quite slow. The memory is so old OCUK don't sell it, but I found a 128mb module on the bay that is apparently compatible, but at £40 its not cheap for the amount you get. Would I be right in thinking this memory would have no problem running the original 64mb module in one slot, with a 128mb in the other without crashing or speedloss? Obviously it doesnt run in dual channel or anything but thought i should check.
If it can, that would give 192mb which would be enough to run xubuntu. I wish I had enough posts for the MM to see if anyone has a module going second hand, but oh well.
Thanks for any help or input.
