Does anyone know if I purchase some parts for my car from Belgum do I have to pay import duty if I have already payed local tax on the purchase. Just a little confused as no-one here knows.

Thanks

Matt

the laws were changed recently so that impersonal imports from the EU (except ciggies and booze!) are not subject to import duties, but may be subject to VAT.

however, i am unsure if my memory serves me correctly.

If you buy from Belgium you pay Belgian VAT(21%). When I buy from OCUK I pay 17.5%VAT, where as it is normally 20-21% in Ireland.

Nate

Edit:- EU VAT rates http://www.expatax.nl/vatrates

Edit2:- Next time I'll actually read the OP! No, there is no import duty as you are not importing into the EU, Simple.

But seriously, Belgium.

Belgium.

Less offensive words have been created in the many languages of the galaxy, such as joojooflop, swut and Holy Zarquon's Singing Fish.

The use of bad language can have unforseen circumstances. One example is the war between the G'gugvunts and the Vl'hurgs, caused by a casual remark made by Arthur Dent being mistaken as a terrible insult.

Simultaneous Babel Fish translation also means that any being can be rude to any other being without the need for extensive explanations. This has also started many wars.

The reason the Earth has been shunned for so long is also due to a language problem. On Earth, Belgium refers to a small country. Throughout the rest of the galaxy, Belgium is the most unspeakably rude word there is.

(only a few will get this...)

yep as i've had for my profile location for 2 years now.

However, it changes with games. I remember Dungeons on Dragons online came out in the UK first and if you ordered it in Austria customs would confiscate it as it wasnt yet out in Austria.

Don't ask me for the ins and outs about that but I remember austrian punters on the forums up in arms about not getting the game on release date and when people suggested ordering a copy this is what was stated. Supposedly protection of their games shops or something but I thought that was no longer existant in the EU?
