Hi,

Now that Windows seems to have built in VSS does that mean I can get away with say a schiit stack and still have the option for VSS? Before I used to have a Magni AMP and that was connected to a Mixamp Pro for the VSS. the thing that put me off jsut having a normal stack for PC was before was the limitiation with stereo, I do prefer VSS for some games.

Depends how well it works and not all algorithms are created equally.

Creative's SBX protstudio is pretty much the best available at the present time, and can be be purchased as downloadable software to work with other audio devices. Razer has their own free version, but that isn't that great really. Dolby Headphone is likely the most common; it's found on the Mixamp and pretty much most USB headsets that offer 7.1, but it's not as good as SBX.

There is Dolby Atmos for Headphones available on Windows 10, but I don't if what you are talking about is the same thing. AFAIK, Dolby Atmos for Headphones is a trial software and will need to purchased if the user wants to continue using it.

It does mean though, that you can use something like the Schiit stack and get surround sound, 7.1, or whatever you want to call it, without the need to have a sound card that specifically has SBX, Dolby headphone, etc.

Thanks that's what I was hoping to hear. I did have a Creative X7 which I really liked but fancied something a bit different this time around.
