Question re unlocked/generic 3G modems

If I have a Vodafone 3G SIM would it work in either a branded but unlocked non-Vodafone modem or a generic non network specific modem - I believe Sony do some.

How would I use it given the network specific modems normally ship with specific software to connect?

you can get generic software for them, you just have to put in the APN settings etc

should work fine
