question regarding gigabyte ds4 and sata 2

just wondered which controller you guys use to run a sata 2 harddrive.is it best to use the chipset controller or the gigabyte one.also how do you set this up in the bios.have had problems before trying to get a sata 2 harddrive working properly.

I would use the Intel SATA.
Personally if it's just a single drive I also just use it in IDE mode as for me the extra features of SATAII make no improvement.
 
I actually use the Intel ICH8R controller but when I installed XP I had the HD connected to the GigaSATA2 controller which was configured in IDE mode. Once the OS was installed and running I changed the Intel to AHCI mode, installed the required drivers and then moved the HD over onto the Intel ICH8R. This saves having to do the F6 during boot and installing the drivers because I didn't have a floppy disk at the time.
 
yup, AHCI is basically the support for the advanced features like NCQ.
I would think that you can get the drivers from Gigabyte's website or of course Intel's.
