Hi i am looking at buying a nice new router soon and i want a router capable of good pings during gaming, my router is very old and rubbish my lodger does a lot downloading and uploading but rules will be in place soon.

I run through Lan and i am not sure if Gigaports are better than the standard 10/100?

I do not do file transfers or anything like that.

This is the router i was lookin at

With Gigabit It's faster for LAN stuff, it won't alter your pings over the internet much at all though.
However a newer router with a better modem chip might have beneficial effects on your connection.

Yes, providing you have CAT5e, and your local devices are using gigabit lan, then all your you local network devices will be at 1Gigabit but your Internet (which is on another network through the gateway) will run at another speed, depending on your supplier.

Gigabit lan wont help this, it will however help with local file transfers etc.

you might want to address the issue with your housemate downloading, as this is probably saturating your line and not helping your gaming latency at all
