I heard that very soon intel are dropping prices on the cpus.

I would like to know how much the Q6600 will drop in price?

Will it be worth upgrading from a intel pentium dual core E2200 to the Q6600?

Intel had a price drop back on the 18th, yu should be seeing the new prices at the moment. The Q6600 will not drop it has been discontinued, they may even go up a tad as stock beings to disapear.

Has that actually been oficially confirmed? I heard a rumour about it, but a few weeks later heard that the Q6600 was still in Intel's roadmap for a while yet.

I don't see any use for a LGA775 quad anymore

Intel® Core™ i7 has given the real power-users the platform they need for serious encoding/rendering leaving the older LGA775 a bit of an awkward half-way house! :o

A fast dual-core is proving to be ample for 99% of semi power users, runs games sweet, encoding and rendering is fast, it uses less power and has lower running costs, for everything else there is Intel® Core™ i7 or the forthcoming Intel® Core™ i5

God INTEL can't get the Q6600 EOL fast enough for my tastes, send it to its special place in hardware heaven alongside the nVidia 8800GTX! :p

I know how much better the i7 is. I just wish it would come down to a reasonable price without me having to wait a year or something.

4 cores with hyper-threading will be in my dreams for a while yet.

So if i was to buy a e8400 or an e8500 that would be very good for games combined with either a 4850x2 or a 4870x2 and would last for 2 to 3 years?
