Question regarding music library on iPads

Hi all,

I am about to get myself a tablet - never owned one before so please forgive my ignorance with the following question.

I have a music library on my laptop, much of which consists of MP3's which I have ripped from physical CDs I own, or purchases made from non-itunes services such as Amazon MP3 store.

If I purchased an iPad, would I be able to transfer and play my non-itunes purchased music to the ipad?

If you want to transfer music, you need to put the music in iTunes.

Personally, although I use iTunes for my music library, I don't bother with it on my iPad and just use google play. It's about time Apple did something similar.

Yes. You don't have to use iTunes. You can use something like http://www.copytrans.net/ if your main OS is Windows.
