Hi,

As my rig is ageing a bit now I need all the help I can get playing the latest games. I'd like to disable as many background services/programs as possible and as I don't want to screw up my main user account I was wondering if you can disable services on one account without them being affected on any other accounts?

Cheers.

Yup, each account loads sperate things. My 'admin' account on this system has all the default loading crap that has come from installing programs, but my main account has very few in comparison, as I've ensured that it doesn't run extra stuff. :)

Start > Run > msconfig

But be careful, if you don't know what something in there does...leave it be.

Properly configured Windows Services will load regardless of the account being used - thats the whole point of a service actually. It can exist outside the normal confines of user account space. Nearly all services actually load before you even logon.

Your startup items and programs loaded by your CurrentUser registry key can all be manipulated by msconfig or similar.
