i have vista ultmate retail from when it first came out, but now there has been a million updates since then, im finding it a pain when it comes to reinstallation, now my mate has vista ultimate retail with service pack 1 already on it, if i borrow his copy and use my key will it work>???

why not take an ISO of your legit DVD, download SP1, slipstream SP1 on to your retail copy, and create a new ISO of your legit retail Vista with SP1 ... doesnt matter what media you use, providing you're licensed and legit ...

sorry for a being a bit ignorant but how would i slipstream it onto my retail copy???

You can actually use upgrade media for a 'clean' install if you have enough time on your hands (basically requires two installs) but this won't help your SP1 problem.

So, grab the redist SP1 standalone from MS or figure out how to slipstream :D

I know how to do the upgrade install.

vlite does not want to seem to slipstream sp1.
