question

GPU temps are usually specified up to about 120 degC, but most users will never see the much above 90 on load, and that will be in a poor airflow/high ambient situation.

As i said, most gpus are specified up to about 120. so in theory anything below this is fine.
In normal operating conditions, even under full load most cards will not go above 90 in a multi card or slightly air starved setup.

IIRC my gtx295 has a similar TDP to the 4870x2 and with the stock cooler on 100% fan it couldn't breach 85 under furmark. But at 100% the fan is LOUD, so most people have a quieter fan speed and let the temps rise a bit more.

The temps you get really do depend on the individual card; the airflow (both into the case and the fan speed on the card); the ambient temps; what load it is under; and if done, the overclock.

a lot of peopel get worried when they see tmeps this high, due to them being far greater than CPU temps, but this is normal behaviour, and the gpus are designed for it.
