What do you think is the best networking device currently on the market and why? and also what was your all time faviourate? just interested :)

Homeplugs.

A great invention. Never had any issues with them. No arguments over cat5 cable making things messy, they are much faster than wifi, much more stable (in fact none have failed on me yet months of continuous use). The go a huge range, where other cat5 alternatives cant reach. Just plug and play. Reasonably priced.

My favourite ever - would be the USR 14k external modem - It opened up the world to me.

doesnt this also depend on the quality of your wires in house mine are quite old so i think if i had them itll be worse for me

In no particular order thing's that I quite like right now:

HP switches, especially the little 1400/1800 series ones. Cheap and very cheerful and far superior in every way to the nasty plastic **** sold by Netgear, Linksys et. al. Can't really go wrong with them. Shall be interesting to see what they come up with over the next few months what with HP now owning 3Com.

Cisco wireless kit, not cheap but miles ahead of the majority of the competition IME.

Currently getting to grips with some of the entry level Juniper stuff too and so far I think it's fantastic.

How is this question even answerable?

I'm having great fun messing with Cisco C3750G-24TS-1U's, but I doubt that was the answer you were looking for.

The Cisco 4402 Wireless LAN Controller, and associated 1200 series access points were a learning curve, but an awesome peice of kit!

I love ProCurve stuff, it just works and once you step up to the proper kit, 25xx upwards you can use ProCurve manager. So useful.

I would have to agree on Homeplugs, wireless can be such a PITA sometimes.

Been using homeplugs for a couple of years now to give me the net in my bedroom, rock solid stable for me though as stated can be limited in uses, depends on quality of cabling (same as any other cable though really) and surge protectors/extension sockets can also kill the speed you get.

agreed looking at these they are for the higher end market all the same these are the best networking choices i would choose, though maybe there not the best sellers on the market :)

Even the small J series are great, the fact that a single OS runs across the entire range, makes upgrades so much easier - Just need to get my mitts on a nice Firewall from them to see how it handles :)

Anything running JUNOS :)

God yes. I've just signed the PO for another 4 MX480s and 50 odd EX4200s.

But for best device I've seen around - Cisco 3750, it's been around years now and it was such a fantastic step forward, capable of high speed routing in addition to switching duties, fairly advanced QOS. I know lots of small ISPs who built metro core networks on these things, it's just deployed in such a huge variety of environments which speaks well of it's flexibility.
