Any one on here use the above mentioned set up either 1080ti sli or the 1st titan Xp in sli also how does it work with gsync as i heard it had issues. also what games do you find use it well apart from bf series

Before ever 1 comes in saying its a waste i know and i know not a lot of games use sli but ill be using them across 2 machines and only on occasion sli them also have 8700k @5.1 and 1300w psu sho shouldnt be an issue making it work.

You could have a 9900K at 6Ghz, won't make a difference... the problem is the game support/optimisation for SLI, which is just awful for the most part. There are a few games that do benefit of course, but for every person I see saying they've had results, there's someone else with issues. The variance of benefit in those titles that do get it is huge also... sometimes only a few %. So it entirely depends what games you play. No one can tell you SLI is good or bad, as you may happen to want to play a game that does actually scale really well with it. I didn't think Battlefield fell in to that 'good' category from what I've read, but I may be wrong.

Just seems like waste of money to be honest, you want SLI no problem but your £1000 investment is not going to be half that in few months time with new stuff on the horizon. Normally i just say buy now don't bother wait but right now is a mistake.

I would just buy a single 1080ti if you really want to game at 4k and then wait for new Titan replacement. Honestly I would not pay more than £450 for a single TI if you can find one at that price. Just not worth it so close to new stuff to drop £700 on a new card.

If you want to SLI that is fine, but if you want two separate machines with Ti in each that also seems like a waste unless your machines are located in different locations.

but if money is no object and you have lots to spare, hell go for it.

I recently sold an old 760GTX to my mate to SLI with his one, the 3 games he plays PC2, Dirt Rally and Assetto Corsa all work flawlessly on SLI, with 100% usage on both cards.
I would check what games you play as games still support SLI.
I personally would not go back to SLI, I used it for years but got sick of fiddling with profiles and games not supporting SLI from the off, and of course micro stutter.

Driving games do play pretty with SLI I've heard. Micro stutter is something that some people are really sensitive to, while others are not. Personally I don't notice it really, but a friend of mine does and he got rid of his second card in SLI for that very reason.

As AMDPower says though, SLI is really a very poor value proposition right now, so unless you have the money to burn, or can pick up two cards dirt cheap, I'd just wait until the new cards drop, as you'll really be kicking yourself if the 1180 turns out to have similar performance as a 1080Ti SLI set-up, and for less money.

When I had 980s in SLI it was brilliant, but support seems to be diminishing at quite a rate, and I wouldn’t bother.

That said, are you wishing to buy a second, or two new cards?

If it’s the latter I’d wait. If not then pick one up to test and possibly return, or grab one second hand.

I’d youre primarily looking to VM then SLI shouldn’t be a worry too much anyway.

Sli and crossfire look to be going the way of the dodo. They had a decent 10 or so year run but the support is lacking.

Have had 1080Ti SLI before and it wasn’t a good experience. Some games took slight advantage of the other card, some ran really well some worse. Quite a lot of games especially new ones performed worse or pretty much identically.

As a comment above had 980/980Ti SLI at one point and that was brilliant. Just seems games in the last 3-4years have really bad support.

Yep, ‘twas me. I had a great time as I said, and I was clearing out older titles with great performance. I reached a point where the oldest didn’t need the two cards and the newest titles often didn’t benefit at all. That’s when I sold it.

I probably won’t go SLI again, I’m so glad I did it; it was an awesome experience, but in the future I’ll just be buying the ti every other generation, unless things change.

I've had 980TI SLI, Titan Pascal SLI and now 1080ti SLI. I've had a good experience in general but don't play a huge variety of games. GTA5 looks amazing and Dirt Rally, the Witcher 3 and a few others do look beautiful and noticeably better at the same resolutions.
I mainly play Arma 3 which is CPU limited so I can't increase fps without a new CPU (currently a 5960X at 4.5Ghz) BUT I can use 16xSLI SSAA which really looks amazing at 4K. I actually got the second 1080ti a couple of months ago after gaming on a single 1080ti for nine months and the SLI 1080TIs image quality makes me smile pretty much every time game. I'd prefer a single card but until 1180Ti I can't see a single card giving me the image quality I want.

Why do you need 16xSLI SSAA at 4K? Using a massive screen?

Also i have used SLI for years (670s / 970s / 980s / Titan-XMs) but the support has gone down big time since the 9xx cards and not worth it.

I was confused too. Tbh the post came across weird to me, I play all my games at Ultra settings, or close to. When I had SLI nothing changed in IQ, just frames.

Who would run a 1080ti at less than ultra settings? And until very, very recently no 4K monitors ran more than 60hz, so the FPS (the point of SLI) wouldn’t be that different.... if at all. And unless the screens an inch from your nose or as you say it’s massive, you won’t see a a difference with SSAA. So I’m lost here.

Not having a dig here btw, just don’t get it. Care to elaborate @Jacky60 ?

Well it's a 40 inch monitor, I don't 'need' it but I can see the difference and it does look amazing. The dot pitch on a 40inch 4K or certainly my Phillips BDM 4065 means that while 8x MSAA looks pretty, 16x SSAA looks prettier. In Arma 3 there is no way to increase my fps short of new memory/CPU and FPS is fine anyway so I'm putting the extra card to 'good' use. When I don't wear glasses any AA simply disappears but with glasses I can see very subtle but discernible crawlies/jaggies (this is Arma 3 I'm referring to).
So yes 'massive' screen and in honesty I don't need SSAA it it just looks nicer which is why I've done it. Obviously pretty much everything that can be ultra is ultra. Other games I haven't got the GPU power to be able to use SSAA.
