Hey guys, recently (well this past year) I've been looking to upgrade my rig, due to this taking nosedive. I was looking at this...(sry couldn't get the basket thing to work-I'm new:p)

AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8320 (£119.99)
Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0 AMD 970 (£79.99)
Kingston HyperX Genesis 8GB (2x4GB)1600MHz(£61.99)
Corsair Carbide 300R Mid Tower Windowed Case(£78.95)
Seasonic S12II 520W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply(£59.99)
Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache(£41.99)
LG GH24NSB0 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (£15.95)
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - OEM (£79.99)

Total : £553.84

Now, this was possibly my build(have to use my old gpu for 6 months or so until I upgrade) A few questions though...

I read I should go for the 8320, Instead of the 6300 In regards to future games... you're thoughts?

Now i was close to this, but amd released those FM2+ boards such as

Gigabyte G1.Sniper A88X AMD A88X Chipset (Socket FM2+) DDR3 ATX Motherboard

It made me think about If am3+ might be dropped and these boards taking over for kaveri/steamroller... Would buying this board with say a 760k(£60 chip) be a better upgrade option (again though amd keeping quiet) for future cpu's? (I'm not interested In apu's really though) I'm torn atm as Fm2+ might be more catered for, or even exclusively Steamroller.

Anyways thanks for reading and any replies!:)

I don't know much about AMD or what they're wanting to do with their CPU's, but here is what I've knocked together with the same price :)

YOUR BASKET
1 x AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8320 Black Edition 3.50GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail £119.99
1 x ASRock 990FX Extreme3 AMD 990FX (Socket AM3+) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £82.99
1 x Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - OEM (GFC-02050) £79.99
1 x BitFenix Ghost Silent Tower Case - Black £77.95
1 x Corsair Builder Series CX 600w Modular '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply (CP-9020060-UK) £62.99
1 x Kingston HyperX Genesis 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9D3K2/8GX) £61.99
1 x Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache WD10EZEX - OEM ** Single Platter ** HDD £47.99
1 x OcUK 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £13.99
Total : £560.48 (includes shipping : £10.50).

Might be best to include one of these to help keep the 8320 cool, and you'll also be able to get it to around 4Ghz with it.

I have that hard drive, it is very quiet and as fast as my caviar black. A few pound more gets double the capacity :)

The PSU is also slightly more powerful (and it will be powerful enough), while running at around its most efficient. Oh, it's modular too :)

Hey Ryan-3! Thanks :) Yeah I started reading up on the new FM2+ and was confused what choice to make... with my budget being quite tight(and prob not upgrading for 3+ years poss...) I would have hoped am3+ still having an upgrade path.. not sure!

I shall take a ganders at that Psu ;) Yea an aftermarket cooler would be great was thinking of running it at stock speed, with the stock cooler until I could afford one to Oc with (me being cheap, keeping initial costs down).
Yeah I should really go for he 1tb... It was just me trying to work within my budget:) I could also go or a 620w seasonic, god the dilemmas! The asus mobo sounded pretty good with te 6+2 power phases.

Currently my pc has gone very wrong(using on screen keyboard... It painful) And hadn't quite saved enough...but I have to upgrade now really:eek:

So apologies for slow replies and typos!

thanks though for you're reply and advice so far Ryan-3!:)

Sticking with the stock cooler and then upgrading to it (or one similar/maybe better?) later is fine. It will help you learn a bit more about the settings before you go straight into the overclock, or maybe you just want it at stock and running cool(er).

I believe you can't go wrong with either Corsair or Seasonic PSU's, so either is a good choice. :)

Same I believe with the motherboard, go for which you prefer, but the ASRock is on the 990FX chip, where as the Asus is using the 970!

Hey Ryan-3! Sorry for the late reply! Yea, this would be the first time I've Oc'ed... so kinda nervous:p But definitely want to try! Yea the corsairs
& Seasonic PSU's do look good! Yea for the mobo I've been trying to read so much on them for stability/oc'ing/compatibility too & going only singe gpu too, I shall take a ganders!:)

Seasonic g 550w is £67.99 till Tuesday night(down from £79.99), its golden rated and modular.

Nice! I shall have a look, that is a great price! Thanks fowler! Modular too... sweet.

I was thinking aswell... I know this would be less powerful, but with the new chipset might be better for upgrading next year? With the...

Gigabyte G1.Sniper A88X AMD A88X Chipset (Socket FM2+) DDR3 ATX Motherboard

And a 750/760k athlon? What are peoples thoughts on this?

Or still go for a 8320 with the asus? Really in 2 minds mainly about upgrading possibilities?

Anyhows thanks for you're replies and advice guys!

I've got the 8320 and the same mobo and you mention the M5A97 EVO R2.0 - can't fault either, I have mine O/C'd to 4Ghz on air but with a water cooler you could get it stable faster.

I've never had AMD before and I have to say I'm very impressed, the 8 cores help with the things I use like photoshop and some video editing software that I use. Never had a problem, doesn't run hot. Plays games well.

For me the 8320 and the Asus Mobo is the one. Until the day I can afford the latest & greatest intel this set up will do me find for 2-3 years I think.

Yea, It looks like a nice system just on a tight budget atm, so was reading up on the athlon 760k and the new FM2+ boards.

Thanks for you're reply!
