Questions about my new DS4 setup

Hello,

Just built my new conroe system:

Gigabyte DS4
2Gb Giel 800mhz ram
Conroe 6400
Radeon 1800xt
2 Sata drives (not in raid)

All running nice, except I have some questions I hope you can help with:

1.) When I plug the CPU fan into the CPU Fan connector on the DS4, the fan does not work. When I power up, it moves a bit then stops. Is this because of automatic fan controller thingy on the DS4? It works fine in the PWR connector.

2.) What is the best SATA settings for my setup (not running in Raid). In the integrated peripherals page of bios, what should I have in SATA Raid/AHCI mode, and SATA Port 0-3 Native Mode?

3.) Are the PCI/PCI-E buses locked on this board? So if I raise the FSB, the PCI bus will stay at 33mhz? Do I have to enable anything for this?

4.) Where are all the memory timing settings in the bios?

5.) Which of the 2 pci slots is best for a creative x-fi sound card (or do both slots share the same irq)?

1.) It sounds as though your fan connector is borked. I will test to see if it is the same on mine.

2.) I would tend to put the OS sata on the GSATA port and the other sata on the ICH8 SATA port. Havent played with the settings yet.

3.) Yes the pci-e is 'locked', butcan be independantly clocked in the bios. I think the pci's are locked at 33mhz.

4.)In the main menu of the bios hit ctrl-f1 twice and go into the area where you do the overclocking settings.

5.)Don't know

This is normal on this board. It scared the life out of me when I powered-on for the first time and the system fan and CPU fan just wobbled but fdidn't spin-up. In fact, I powered-down straight-away!

The sys and CPU fans will spin-up when the sensors reach a particular temp.
 
My theory is to spread the hdd traffic over two controllers. Its not going to make it any faster, but at least u get to make sure both work.

anyone know if I should be setting the SATA controllers to RAID mode or AHCI mode?
 
I've just ordered 2 80gig Hitachi sata drives so I can RAID0 them. Please can someone give advice on which ports I should be using for the RAID0 and which for my normal non raid SATA's please.

I keep reading problems with booting, and DVD drives running in PIO mode!!
