1- Is the current power supply too much for one card and not enough if i put in a second card in 6 months.
2- What are the case and Cosair hydro fans like, would I need to replace to keep noise down, increase efficiently. Will they be always less noisy that the R9 I've picked.
3- How are the power supply cable lengths for this case

Any suggestion for doing the build differently at around the £1700 mark.

Would rather a closed case as it wont be in a viewable position and to dampen sound.
The NZXT H630 Silent Ultra Enthusiast Tower Case - White was another option I was looking at but an extra £30, but I haven,t used them before. Any opinions on it compared to the Antec

Been a while since I did a new complete build so out of practice

Its a gaming machine but will probably be used at 1900x1200 x 60hrz for at least 6 months on my current Dell monitor. Games - Battlefield 4 - Metro - to RPGs and indies. Will also be doing some graphic work but nothing that will strain the above components or justify an office build. So it'll be an everyday machine that plays the games I like with awesome visuals.
I was sticking with one card for now as sli didnt look worth it for the moment and am unsure of the direction of mantle drivers and what nvidia will bring to the table and at what cost. If the graphics card was to stay on its lonesome for the next year and possibly more I felt it would be perfectly happy.

Doomedspeed would you still go with the Alpenfohn over the Cosair hydro if money didnt play into it. While a graphic card may be sold on and replaced what ever I put on to cool the cpu tends to stay where for a long long time. Id save some money with your selection but keep my choice of graphics card instead of yours.

Ps Thanks for the replies, much appreciated

Edit - some virtualization work as well. I don't mind putting in the extra memory now rather than looking for an extra 8 gig down the line.

Edit 2 - This might seem a stupid question for a gaming machine but considering that it will also be an work machine has anyone set up the Gigabyte bios for using the Intel graphics with the dedicated graphics turned off with one profile and a second overclocked profile overclocked which uses the dedicated graphics card and the intel one turned off. this would keep noise at an minimum during the times I'm working and at max performance when gaming.

The k2 is an excellent cooler and will last an awful long time. Im wary of the all in one liquid coolers. The fans supplied with them are loud too. My k2 has been used in 3 builds so far, stock fans are very good too. Look good, great cooling and not to loud.

Fair enough, thats good enough reason for 1 290X.. Mantle is interesting.

Personally i'd go with the H100i (if money were no object), but then i'd only have it because it'd make my rig look amazing as i'd have a nice big window.. :)

If i was in your situation (not wanting a window and wanting quiet cooler performance) i'd go with the k2 (even if money wasn't a factor).

The K2 WILL be quieter than the h100i, there is also less to go wrong with an air cooler and it performs near as makes little difference the same as the h100i. Considering (on the K2's current offer) its HALF the price of the H100, its a no brainer.

My suggestion No 2.

As you may notice, 290 instead of a 290X..

Theres very little differnce between the 2 and the current price gap doesn't make the 290X worth it.

There were versions of the 290 that could be flashed to a 290X (i think thats been nipped in the bud now).. That shows how close they are..

Saving a massive chunk of money.

I know you don't want a windowed case but are you sure I can't temp you with this?

Nice build mate, although I think blue extensions would look better. :D

I have to say that NZXT H440 Mid Tower Case - White case is gorgeous, Id have to considered moving the machine of of hiding :).
Again guys really appreciate the insight. The problem coming to overclockers is like going to those old fashioned sweets shops when you were a kid and the array of sweets available just left you unable to get a coherent thought in your head let alone made a decision.
Going to sleep and brood on it tomorrow to try and make a decision.

That Nzxt H440.

Recently bought some of the Bitfenix SATA cables, not impressed, they're more of a pink colour than white! Thought it was bleed through but it's actually the braid itself.
