Hello to everyone.
New member here also btw.
Basically I wanted to run a few questions passed folk who know their stuff about networking.
I know some but not everything, know a little about tcp/ip Ethernet etc etc but im no pro - I know just enough to setup my own network at home with google on hand
I've just upgraded my EE con from ADSL to fibre and have zero complaints so far.
My old setup was the Orange=EE router connected to the phone line and my pc connected to router via Ethernet cable and laptops and mobile phones connected to router via wireless.
All pretty much standard yeah...
With the old setup I could go into the routers webpage via browser and its network ip address to look at connections to the router, setup and connection speeds etc.
With the new Fibre connection this has changed in a small but vexing way for me lol.
The engineer came and set me up and it's all good and fine except now I have a modem as well as a router.
Problem being the modem has no ip address.
Phone line to modem to router to all my computers/gadgets is how my network is setup now.
I can still query my router no problem and sort firewall, port forwarding and connections allowed disallowed yada yada BUT I cant access the modem at all.
The modem is connected to the router via Ethernet cable now were as before it was just router to phone-line and in other direction router to pc.
I realize that the modem is there to convert in coming signal to manageable signal for the router but not being able to query the modem means i cant see what speed I'm connected at.
If I query the router the speed it shows now permanently is just the Ethernet 100Mbps speed lol.
Only way to assess my connection speeds now is an online speed tester website.
Is there no way for me to connect to modem at all in some similar fashion as i do with the router?
The modem doesn't even have an ip addy lol.
Realize im probably being noobish and all but its vexing to think of something connected to a network without an address.
TY in advance
And hello to all from new member.
