In Windows 8 I am using “Windows 7 File Recovery” i.e. the backup system of Windows 7 rather than the new Windows 8 method.
This is how I usually do it (see below) and was wondering if this is sufficient to ensure a full recovery in the event of a disaster (excluding fire, theft etc.).
I have three drives:
1. C: Windows 8 and all Program Files
2. D: All my data files in a directory - d:\My Data (partition of "C:")
3. E: Backup – destination of all backups (separate hard disk)
Once I am happy with the installation of Windows and Program Files I create a system image of the C: drive – i.e. Just Windows / Programs / Windows Recovery Environment and just keep this static but do not include data from D:\My Data.
Then I create a weekly scheduled backup of all my data (excluding system image as I have that already as above). Since my data is not in libraries I just manually select D:\My Data.
In the screen to choose what to backup I select the following:
Data Files / Back up data for newly created users – (I exclude this)
Data Files / My Libraries – (I exclude this)
Data Files / UpdatusUser’s Libraries – (I exclude this)
Computer / Data("D:") / D:\My Data – (I include this)
Computer / Data("D:") / System Volume Information – (I exclude this)
Say in the event both my C: and D: drive kick the bucket would I be able to do a full recovery using the above selections or should I be including “UpdatusUser’s Libraries”, “Back up data for newly created users”, “System Volume Information”??
Thank you
