so, I'm looking at cheap XFX 290X DD to buy and my questions would be:

is it decent card to buy? it will roughly around 50 less than eg. Asus DCU. this would be brand new.

how is OCing? Noise? temps?

heard that some had problems with high VRM temps and that not much OC headroom.

also, how is XFX with warranty? I already own PSU from them, so ok with brand itself.

thanks

I would get the Vapor-X for £215.99.

That XFX is better than the Asus DCU2 but their warranty is pants. Plus Vapor-X is one of the 2 best 290X cards so there's that. :)

I ordered that Vapor-X yesterday after it became clear that the 300 series would be a terrible choice for 1080p in terms of price/performance, compared to the 290x. The reviews of the cooler are excellent and the value seems incredible.

XFX still can't be bothered to put heatsinks on their vrm's so overheating and throttling is still a problem. We had a thread on here a couple of weeks ago about a XFX 290 DD suffering from this very problem and I believe the chap was going to fit a different cooler in the end. I really can't see why they are still doing this as it been going on for years now and surely it wouldn't cost more than a few quid to stick a heatsink on them?

if nothing better comes up tomorrow morning, I'm buying Asus R9290X-DC2-4GD5 for 177.

was leaning towards DD, but now that Asus is cheaper, there is little sense in going for it.

All cards are manufactured to a decent standard, don't worry about the temps etc - let it run and just move on to using your pc.

;).
