Here is a spec I'm looking at.

I need to review a few things.

1. Is this good?
2. Is it compatibile?
3. Is it worth changing something to save a bit of money?

Here's my spec.

AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 965 Black Edition 3.40GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail £154.99
Asus ATI Radeon HD 5770 CuCore 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £135.99
Sony Optiarc AD-7240S 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEMhttp://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CD-038-OT £15.99
Coolermaster Elite 334 Midi Case - Black £29.99
Samsung EcoGreen F3 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD503HI) £38.99
Corsair VX 550W ATX Power Supply (CMPSU-550VXUK) £67.99
Gigabyte GA-MA770T-ES3 MA770 (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard £64.99
Corsair 4GB (2X2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMV4GX3M2A1333C9) £98.99

I'm not sure on the Mobo and RAM mostly, the rest I seem quite happy with.

Any thoughts on this?

It is for gaming which is why I went with the AMD CPU and also because I don't want to overlock anything.

Thanks

The 955 is cheaper and only one clock ratio slower, this is a easy fix.

XFX 5770 is cheaper.

OCZ modxstream 600w psu is £59 and is modular.

and the ASUS M4A79XTD is a better board.

I've changed the motherboard as you suggested but shouldnt I go for DDR3 ram if the CPU/Mobo support this?

You got DDR3 in your spec.

You can save £20 by getting the 955 CPU.

The one you specced in your post runs at 5400rpm.

Get the few quid more one.

Things with green or eco in their names usually suck.

That's now spot on.

You can save £20 by selecting the 955CPU which apart from having a clock multiplier of 1 less, is the same, the cpus are unlocked so to alter this takes about 4.5seconds in the bios.

I would suggest going to the 955BE and just getting a cheap heat sink like AC7 Pro and just overclocking. Its acutal quite easy to overclock and you well be able to out perform the 965.

Ordered but had to change the HDD as the Samsung was sold out.
