Questions regarding E6600 2.4Ghz

Ive just bought to same cpu and im in the same position as the OP , are we very limited by using the stock cooler ? of course im going to buy a decent cooling solution but having just spent 400 quid on my upgrade im alittle skint tbh :D

im using gigabyte DS3P mobo, 2gb geil ddr2 ultra low latency ram

any tips for a n00b over clocking on this board would be great :)

Have a read here

stock voltage should be fine for 3gig on an E6600 - only play with the RAM when you have a stable CPU overclock... and tbh the memory overclocking is not going to make much if any performance difference - until you get to 4+gig even DDR2@667 w/ 5-5-5- timings are more than adequate...

Just doesnt happen for me on stock voltage... how strange... pc just turns off then the psu turns on but i dont get a bios beep so i have to turn it off again.

my E6600 hits quite a steep curve Vcore wise at above about 3.02 gig.

3.2 gig requires 1.5V - and is at 64C underload

3.05 gig requires only 1.4V - is only 50C underload - and is only about 5% less in benches.

every 2 MHz step up from 3.05 gig (2 MHz in bios fsb) - requires another step-up in Vcore- not really worth it.

Mark.

Currently running at 2.84GHz (316). Have underclocked the RAM and set the ratio 1:1. Temp is around 58C ish.

In my original post, my temp was like 30-40 now its always quite high... ill get a new cooler maybe.

Going to post some screens of my bios later to ensure i have not made a noobeh mistake

Have you tested with Prime 95 and Orthos to see if its stable? If you can do a blend test on Orthos for 10+ hours it should be pretty stable.

[AUTO] isn't stock voltage. It's [AUTO] voltage. Try manually setting the volts to 1.325 or 1.35 and see how you get on. It'll probably run cooler.

when i was on air i got my e6600 to 3.2ghz with an artic freezer 7 with 30-35C idle and arround 50-55 full load the memory settings on this board are usesless for best results it best to leave it all on automatic, iv noticed the board i have has a .04 volt drop (which will crash the system once you stress it), the chipset cooler is usless imsurprised the thin bits of copper dint melt before i changed it.

how i got 3.2ghz, was to leave the ram all on auto (ram settings on this board are rubbish and make it crash) change the voltage to 1.30 with the voltage drop it made it 1.26 which my e6600 was happy to run on, turn off speed step its on the hardware section at the bottom left of the bios also turn off the other thing in there forgot the name but it slows the fan which heats up the cpu all you gotta do now is set the frequency to
334mhz for 3ghz or what i set mine at 355mhz for 3.2ghz,

to be honest its not a great overclocking board iv had to make a lot of moddifications to hit 3.6ghz.
