Hi ,

my current pc setup has windows 10 installed this was the free upgrade from windows 8.

I am getting a new motherboard and CPU so what is the best way to keep windows 10 and reinstall fresh on my new hardware , i have searched the internet and was unable to find a decent answer just lots of people with issues trying to do so .

any help would be appreciated

As far as I'm aware, if you are signed into a Microsoft account in Windows, the license will get tied to that. So when you reinstall Windows on the new hardware, just re sign into the Microsoft account and it should activate. Probably wait for someone else to confirm that.

USB stick, 6GB or larger, nothing else on it.

Check Settings > Update & Security > Activation. Make sure you already have a digital license and if not - get that done.

Download Windows 10 from Microsoft website and save to USB stick, choose the "Bla bla for installation on another PC" version. And make sure you choose the Windows version you have when you are prompted later on.

That's it really. Follow instructions from there. Just get the computer to boot from USB stick so it can install. Sometimes it does that automatically.

Oh and before doing the above, make sure you write down the Windows key. The program Belarc Advisor will generate it for you on your existing system, if you don't know it. Then activate on the new system with it later on. It's usually not needed as signing into the Microsoft account should work, but always good to have just in case.
