Questions to ask before I buy

Having read some good and bad accounts in the forum, I came up with this post.

I am about to buy my shiny new all singing super powerful uber card and replace my struggling old work horse of yesterdays technology.

I am running Win 7 64 and an purchasing a 24" monitor at the same time.
In my PC I have a 750W corsair PSU and an Asus P5Q-E mobo, intel Q9550.

What questions do I or should I ask before I buy?
What important information do I need to research?

I don't want to buy the wrong thing.

how much are you willing to spend? what do you intend to use it for, games? if games, then what games do you play? etc
