My new house has a bundle of providers available to it, just spoke to o2 and they are basically saying you cannot have broadband without a landline.

I know how LLU works, it comes through the copper wire of your landline, does this have to be 'activated' (pay for home phone) for broadband to be allowed on the line?

Don't really need home phones (who does nowadays?) as we're all students with perfectly functioning mobile phones.

If we have to buy a phone package along with broadband we may as well go with Virgin as its a similar price but faster speeds, just have to pay the £50 connection fee they charge.

For a residential line you'll almost certainly need to pay line rental.

Very useful if you have to call one of those companies that like to gouge their customers by insisting on using 0871 type numbers (mentioning no names). Calling them from a mobile can be frighteningly expensive.

Good point about calling 0845s etc. we went with virgin a they offer a student deal on a 9 month contract so it's perfect, no home phone though haha.

Let's see if the fiber optic hype is true :D
