Hi guys,
Well, put simply had a birthday and I now have the case for my new machine but have a question about the PSU, spec is as follows:
i7 950 (going to clock to 4GHz)
6GB 1600mhz ram
60GB SSD
1TB HDD
GTX480
antex 900 case

Now, I *MAY* in the future put in another 480GTX (although it may just be another single card if its more cost effective in a year) and am therefore thinking about SLI capable PSU's.

Would a corsair TX650W or TX750W run 2x480's? (overclockers have a pre-built that SLI's 480's with the same spec using a TX750 so assume that works).

sli GTX480 needs 850w+ rated psu

this is from an Anandtech review

well admittedly, that graph is using furmark which places the CPU and GPU under maximum use.

Done some power testing the other day with my power meter and see what my rig pulled from the mains:

615w with Prime & Fur Mark running
405w with Prime running
503w with Fur Mark running
272w Idle

Its recommended but not a necessity to have that much power.

Use corsair they are much better rated in high power and reliability.

300W per heating Fermistor, 200W for mildly overclocked CPU and rest (LGA1366 platform is power hungry so that would be easily exceeded) and then of course its better to leave some of PSUs capacity into reserve.

Furmark is GPU only stress tool.

Try Linpack for CPU instead of Prime...
