Seems my i5 has died so going for AMD this round, and wanting to keep the MB/Chip for a good year+. I have a 5850,Corsair 520w(m) PSU and a H50 cooler with somE 1333 Patriot ram to use.

Just looking to make sure i havnt missed anything. Will be looking to overclock the 955 to as close to 4gz as i can, but will probably need to get some 1600 ram for that. And im not too fond of Asus so the gigabyte board seems v.nice.

Will allso be the first ssd i have and the c300 seems to be a very good performer for OS/Documents/Game or two. Will be useing Win7 so i can use TRIM allthough i havnt looked into finding out what that means yet.. :p

Your i5 has died? Have you tried doing an RMA, so long as it is in warranty you should be eligible for a new one.

Also, are you sure it is the CPU is dead? - in my experience CPUs are very resilient, it is almost always something else that has failed within the system.

I first thought it was the Asus mb but i tried a brand new mb and old 100% working card, and it would power on but not post or display. Tried with another new mb and my 'ok' 5850 and still no post or display.

Just powers on and no beeps and no display on any of the three monitors i have tried. Seated the ram in both dimms aswell as one/two at a time to no avail :[

I still cant be 100% sure its the cpu as i have no point of reference, as the mb/gpu/chip/ram could all have borked or just one and i dont have any replacement ram/chip to use as a testbed.

Thx for the advice though :]

Have you tried it with different PSUs?

Did it just not work when you tried to turn the PC on one day (after previously working), has it never worked or did it stop working in a completely different way?

Also, which i5 model do you have out of interest?

Year i powered it on after having it working for a good two months, it powered on fine, but cut out like the a power cut, but their was none, the monitor just went to standby and it has never POSTed since.

Its the 750 oem bought in march, no scratchs on it or marks of any malfuction, so just looking to get a AMD chip+mb system to get a base to test the gpu and ram as i will know they will work out of the box. I think the psu is ok allthough i did try the system on an old 700w and still had the same issue of no POST or display.

The AMD 1055t is only about 20 quid more expensive, would you consider getting that? Could be beneficial for when games start to utilise 6 cores though i only know of 1 that does.

OK, so you have tried the motherboard and CPU with a different PSU and had the same problem - this would indeed indicate a promlem with the CPU, RAM or mobo.

You have tried the CPU in other motherboard and had the same problem -is this with a different PSU or the same one as initially?

Have you tried booting up the PC with just one of the RAM sticks installed? (try both in turn and try different RAM slots).

Also, do you have any s1156 Processors you can borrow from friends of family so you can test them in your existing rig?

RMA on the i5 is in the works, but the AMD spec is my backup in case the i5 replacement goes bad. Thx for the help though, much appreciated.

Will look into what the 1055t can offer saint jimmy :) .

Will the c300 work ok with the UD3H, will be the boot drive with a f1 1tb drive for storage, which might mean il need a bios update for the 800 chipset board ?

Edit: As i said, i dont have a spare 1156skt chip or ddr3 ram to use :( . I used a brand new gigabyte 1156 board with the same chip and ram and had the same issue, but have since sent that back as i dont know if my original asus board has failed at all. If it is the chip, i could get a new i5 or hope for a replacment and still find out the asus board has a fault ( which i rma'd but failed due to scratches), ergo, new AMD core system as a backup. :]
