Hi,

I have a problem with my sisters laptop (running XP Pro) which I can't work out how to fix as I only run 98SE on my pc (I have XP on my laptop but don't have the problem as on my sisters!). I searched but couldn't really find anything certain. The problem is this: up until recently, the laptop just boots into windows without asking for passwords and administrators etc.
Now for some reason it boots up and you have to click on the administrator icon on the welcome screen to get into windows. She reckons it was fine then one day came up with this screen so doesn't know how she might've changed a setting. As she is the only user of the laptop she doesn't need any user accounts etc, so if anyone can tell me how you turn as this off it would be appreciated! :D

Cheers, Tony

Start>Control Panel>User Accounts>Change the way users log on

Uncheck the top box and hit apply. It should just boot straight into windows if you have only one account.

Hmm, tried both those ways and instead it just them brings up a more Win 98 looking logon asking for a password. If you just click ok in then loads up! It looks like there's some other account on there but she's certainly never added an account and as I say it just used to boot straight into Windows. I'm a bit confused to say the least  :)

Can you see any other accounts listed in the user accounts section, make sure the Guest account is disabled.

Has the pc had a network card recently add, or have you recently joind the rig to a network ?

Guest account is disabled, although there is some other account on there that says it's a limited account, password protected. I've never seen it before.
It's a laptop, and although it has a built in network card, she's not connected to any networks.

Its the limited accout causing the problem i think, whats it called ?
ASP.NET Machine A....
Could it be something to do with what she's installed? She's put a few different app's on there (Webshots, etc) so perhaps one of these might've done it.

that comes with the .net runtime iirc, download tweakui and open it, then in go down to autologin and set that up :)

Ok thanks for that, and to everyone else so far! I'll try that in a while as she's using the laptop at the minute. :)

start, run

control userpasswords2

untick users must enter a password to use this computer

it'll then ask you for autologin details
