okay i have this bundle in front of me right now

im 100% nub at this stuff :(

the case has 9 little stud things facing up, do i aline the motherboard on top of that and then just use screws to place it down?

i got 3 studs with motherboard but 9 holes? :S and antec case has these stud things already

do i just place on top and then screw?

What case? Usually on a layout you'll have a couple of plastic spacers, and a bunch of screws. You'll also have some brass hexagonal threaded spacers. Put the spacers into the holes in the case ONLY WHERE THEY ALIGN WITH HOLES ON THE MOTHERBOARD, and use the plastic spacers in the corners of the board to stop it flexing.

Also, your link is bad, here's a working version.

just turned on the mobo to test its all okay

the cpu or fan was spinning but made a kind of loud noise

and now i can smell smoke/burn

what could that be? i feel like crying :(

Turn it off fully.
Take it all apart and leave it all in the boxes for a day.
Once you feel more confident and right frame of mind, start again.
Read the case manual as they usual explain how to place the motherboard into the case and all the other stuff.
Just read all the instructions first and do everything in a logical order.
and still unsure have a good read of this. http://static.tigerdirect.com/html/PCbuildingTips.html
