Heyzus,

Just wondering about a mission type in Arma II that I am too stupid to find/notice how to get...

I was watching some missions on the tube and I came across some "Patrol" missions where there are randomly generated things for you to do - see:

Can't seem to find this ingame, but I heard it was a mission made from the "combat" section of creating your own mission? I tried that and I get deployed, but no enemies/objectives :(

Also what is the armory all about? I tried using it and got some points, but how do you unlock other things (like the animals :p)?

Cheers

This appears to be a user made mission in the editor. There are scripts that will spawn enemies for you. Or you can manually place them etc. I suggest finding a unit and playing multiplayer. Its a whole new better game. Don't be afraid of being the "noob" as the community on ArmA is nothing like COD etc. Noobs are welcomed and taught and you will learn fast.

Ah ok thanks :)

Mission making can be quite complex. And without using scripts to keep the missions very random. It is too easy for the mission maker (he made the mission after all!) But to make a mission that has a high degree of random objectives and enemies is even more complicated to make. Most Units if not all units will have a small team of clever mission makers so you don't need to worry. :)

I believe the Free versions does not give mod support and does not include the DLC or the Operation Arrowhead expansion. It may also not allow online access. But don't quote me on that.

The free version looked and performed horrible for me, and only had a few missions...

Full game is certainly worth the £15 though.

Had a few sessions on the free version now, and it does indeed look horrible! I think the textures are locked to ultra low res, whatever you set it to. On the rare occaision I get in a squad with some good teamplayers its brilliant fun, though.

So is Operation Arrowhead a full standalone that the majority of people will be playing? ARMA II and ARMA II: OA seem to be the same price from most places, do I need both or what?

OA is a full standalone but get both as it's then called combined operations.

It enables you to play on servers that run both games.

Also check out the Project Reality mod.

Thought OA is standalone. It is also an expansion and will combine and expand on existing features from ArmA2 and i used by most of, if not ALL the online communities. Well worth it too!
