Quick Athlon Question

I have a pretty old system now compared to you lot but it still does ok for me. My mobo is an Asus A7N8x-E and I`m running a clocked Athlon XP-Mobile at 2.2. Is this the best socket A cpu I can have in this mobo? (I no i could get an XP3200+ but i`m running at that now no probs). I have seen a cheap Barton xp-m2500 unlocked. Can`t remember whether or not the Barton was better than the Athlon? And also, would it work in my mobo? Cheers for refreshing my memory!!

If you have an xp-mobile, it should be multiplier unlocked as it is...

The barton's were slightly more powerful due to more cache IIRC and should clock slightly higher (most did about 2.4-2.5ghz on moderate air cooling) Should work fine in the mobo as well, doubt you even need a bios upgrade.

Thanks for the reply. I am running air cooled at the moment n can just about hit 2.3ghz. I got my current mobile athlon from ocuk. As for it being a barton I have no idea? How do i tell without ripping it out?
