Ok just about to interweb myself some Auto Glym but the first site I looked at has "Liquid Hardwax" I haven't seen this in the shops at all so I assume it might be more of a trade thing.

Anyway what should I go for? Liquid Hardwax or the Extra Gloss Protection I was going to go for?

Thanks.

On the bottle of the extra gloss protection is actually says it's liquid hard wax anyway so that makes no sense.

I use the gloss protection - put it on once every 3 months or so - seems pretty good, car always comes up nicely with just bucket and sponge for months after.

I'll stick with the Extra Gloss Protection then.

I'm still in two minds whether to bother or not because my current car cleaning routine is so easy and my car always gets compliments when I've given it a going over... hmm.

Also the fact that I just went out to my car to get my phone and I noticed some nice person has put a cute little dimple on the side of my car with their door  makes me think why bother :o

Carry on - you're looking after the paint and you're making life easier with interim washes between polishing efforts.

So easy to sponge down after it's been polished and sealed up.

Polished mine end of April I think so wont bother again for a few months. Actually tempted to get a valleter in to do it - time is precious, baby at home so finding the time to do it is tricky sometimes.

You might change your mind when you see how expensive it can be!

The previous owner of my car paid Miracle Detail £400 to do the Elise.

I'll still do a better job though :)

£85 will get you a valet, but it won't be anything like the quality of a proper detail session.

Paul Dalton (owner of Miracle Detail) does a nice line in Veyron detailing, it's only £5000 so maybe you should treat the Teg to the same thing.

I'll give it some thought.

That's great.

Personally I can't get enough of having yoghurt smearing in my hair or wiping crayon marks off everything we own.

Sounds like fun :D

Yeah I'll have a strop about my car for a few more days then give it a good polish up :)

Seems pointless buying the gear off the net due to the cost of postage so I'll have a look at prices on the high street. A little birdy told me that Asda are stopping their Autoglym range so its all on clearance at the moment.

Try some of that Harly Wax I was blabbering on about!

I could be tempted to give this a go once I've got rid of all the crap on the paint. It gives a lovely deep shine from the pics in your thread.

At the moment I layer on a coat of spray on wax with every or every other wash and it really transforms the colour of the car, only lasts a couple of weeks though so if this keeps the paint that freshly waxed look with an application every 4 to 6 weeks it would be well worth the money.

Thanks for the heads up Liverpool-Lad, I went for the Harly wax in the end... and after a quick chat via a friend of a friends dad I went for the the 3M pre-wax cleaner (hand glaze) and Perfect-It III that the guy recommends too :o

The wallets feeling the burn but the 3M products should last for ever (especially the Perfect-It) so its probably a bit of an investment.

I'll post pics when I get the chance to use it all (eta august 2008 :o )

I was looking at those too - I have some very fine swirl marks in the paint, not as many as normal cars but looking close up I can see them. I might well try this stuff. Let me know how it goes and post a thread when youre done.

unfortunatly I have no pics, but my mate used some of my brothers 3m machine glaze and some fine cut polish stuff on a metallic black vectra before, and it came out really good :). Took out some swirl marks aswell if I remember rightly ...
He used it by hand though not using a buffer.

Have to agree that the Extra Gloss Protection is really good.

Make sure you put on an uber thin layer as otherwise it's a bitch to remove.

Also you should use AutoGlym Super Resin Polish first as this helps the EGP bond to it.

After that, I hear that P21S Carbuna Wax applied on top will give beautiful results (not tried this yet, but was recommended).

Worth a try :)

Yeah will do, my mechanic used some Finesse-It on my dads van when something swiped the back end of it, came up looking like new. I think the Perfect-It is one step down from that in terms of abrasion.

I emailed Johnny and he said that although its a lot of work as I'd bought all three products any way I should do the whole car in Perfect-It then go over the whole car with the hand glaze and wax over the top of that  My arms are gonna be aching that day thats for sure!

Ok so I used al my new toys so a little update mainly for liverpool lad as I know he was considering the 3M stuff.

OK firstly the Perfect-It III. I used this after washing my car on Friday night. I was recommended by Johnny to go over my whole car with this stuff first. I would describe it as a suped up T-Cut. There were some scratches that T-cut improved but didn't get rid of completely, this stuff either improved them further or got rid completely. I would highly recommend this if you need a T-Cut type compound but it doesn't get rid of swirl marks- read bellow.

So Saturday morning comes and its time for stage 2 the Imperial Hand Glaze. I made an early start but the sun ws already blazing- way too hot for polishing but seeing how rare it is I get the chance I went ahead anyway. Looked at my car and thought 'what the **** have I done' my car was covered in very visable swirl marks. Thinking lets make the best of a bad job I started with the hand glaze doing 1/2 a panel at a time because of the heat. Luckily the swirl marks put in by the Perfect-It all dissapeared. The finish was really rather good. Liverpool Lad if your trying to shift swirl marks this might be the stuff to go for but I've never used scratch X etc so can't compare.

Heres my tip of the day DON'T USE THIS IN DIRECT SUN LIGHT LIKE I DID!! By the time I had got round to the front of the car it was red hot and it welds to the paint in seconds. Trying to cut corners I did the whole of the bonnet in one go. Despite all my scrubbing to get it off there are patches tha are still on there now :o Next time I wash it I'll have to re-polish and re-wax this but I guess thats what happens on the hottest day of the year!

Finally the wax itself, maybe I was expecting too much but I was slightly dissapointed after all the paint prep etc to finish up with my car looking exactly the same as if I had just washed it and layered on another coat of spray on wax which would have taken minutes instead of hours. Maybe time will tell and im sure it does offer better protection but I was left a bit underwhelmed with the finished result.
