Quick BF2:BC question regarding retail box and Steam

I bought Bad Company 2 on luch this afternoon. This is the first non Steam game I have bought for years. My question is... Can I install this from DVD and have it intergrate with Steam (for friends etc) or do I have to use the key to download from Steam?

I ask because Virgin Media is being very ghey with their ADSL service lately (I'm getting .5/.6Mbs when 2 weeks ago I was getting 6.5/7.5Mbs all the day long). It will take all weekend to download

Doesn't link at all with steam I'm afraid. But if it did you could still install from disc.

Plus at the moment steam friends doesn't work properly with it, (no join game option) so your not missing that feature. Everyone is stuck with the ingame friends list...when that decides to work.

Can you not add the shortcut to Steam? I did that with a few non-Steam games, and it launches the Steam overlay for use inside games, as long as you launch it from Steam.

Just add the shortcut as a 'non Steam game' (box at bottom of Steam games list).

You still get the chat overlay though peeps may not be able to see what game you are playing.
